Director of Bands
Chris Peterson
is the Director of Bands at Conner High School in Hebron,
Kentucky. He came to Conner from the Bellevue High School
Band Program in Bellevue, Kentucky where he was the Director for
eight years. While at Bellevue, the Marching Band received
Distinguished Awards for five consecutive years, thus qualifying
for the KMEA Regional and State competitions. The Concert
Band likewise received Distinguished Award. Since becoming the
Director of Bands at Conner High School, the Marching Band has
received Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, and numerous
First Place Class awards. They also received awards
for three years of 2nd place in the Class AA Finals in the
Mid-States Band Association competition.
Chris received a four year Music
Scholarship to the University of Kentucky after graduating from
Campbell County High School in 1981 where he had been a member
of the Marching Band, the Jazz Band, and the Concert Band.
In his Senior year, he was named to the Kentucky All State
Concert Band. While at the University of Kentucky, he was
a member of the nationally renowned UK Marching Band, the Jazz
Band under the direction of Vince Dimartino, the Concert Band
and the UK Basketball Pep Band. In 1984, he and two other
members of the UK Marching Band were selected to be members of
the Olympic All American Marching Band which performed during
the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics in Los
Angeles, California. The Band also performed at other
Olympic venues during the four week experience. He was one
of two Student Directors for the UK Marching Band, the Student
Director of the UK roving Pep Band during the second half of UK
football games, and was the Student Director of the UK
Basketball Pep Band in his Senior year.
Chris received a Bachelors
Degree in Music Education from the University of Kentucky in
1985 and received his Master Degree from Xavier University in
Cincinnati, Ohio in 1993. While at Bellevue High School,
he was President of the KMEA 6th District for two years and
continues to be an active member of the organization. He
was also the President of the Northern Kentucky Band Directors
Association for four years. In
2003, he completed the necessary requirements to receive a
National Board Certified Teacher award.
